Dr. Elliot Krames, Medical Director is a nationally and internationally known "thought leader" in the field of pain medicine and neuromodulation. He graduated from medical school at the University of Maryland and completed his residency in anesthesiology and his fellowship in obstetrical anesthesia at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Krames is board certified in anesthesiology and sub-certified in pain management through the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is certified in pain medicine through the American Board of Pain Medicine. The first cancer pain clinic at Mount Zion Hospital was established by Dr. Krames in 1982. He established the Pacific Pain Treatment Center in 1987.

Dr. Krames is on the Board of the International Neuromodulation Society (INS) and has served on the Boards of The North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS), The National Pain Foundation (NPF), The World Institute of Pain (WIP), The American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) and The American Board of Pain Medicine (ABPM). Dr. Krames just completed a three year term as President of the International Neuromodulation Society, was co-founder and vice-chairperson for operations of The National Pain Foundation, an organization dedicated to be an educational resource to patients suffering from pain, and was Editor-in-Chief for thirteen years of Neuromodulation, Journal of the International Neuromodulation Society and the Official Journal of the International Functional Electrical Stimulation Society. He also serves on the Editorial Board of Pain Medicine, the journal for The American Academy of Pain Medicine. Dr. Krames has co-authored two previous books and has just completed editing a two volume textbook, Neuromodulation. He has authored numerous papers and book chapters noted in his curriculum vitae.

Dr. Krames has been voted by his peers as a "Best Doctor" in the field of pain medicine yearly from 2003 to 2010, and has been acclaimed as one of the "top doctors" in the city of San Francisco by San Francisco Magazine. He was nominated by "Best of the Bay" in 2009. Dr. Krames is on the medical staff of California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco and at the Post Street Surgery Center.

His hobbies are reading, traveling, growing grapes and making wine!
